enjoying nature

On a recent vacation to California, Sarah got sick. The only good side to this was I was that my boredom caused me to drive out to the beach most mornings. This particular morning I found a family fishing off the rocks. This was what I had been hoping to see for the last 3 days; a human element enjoying nature. My only regret was not engaging with them more, I really wish I would have been able to be there close and personal when one of them caught a really big fish, the looks on their faces were great…but I was to shy.

little things

First: I am sorry to those that have been bugging me because I have not posted.
Second: I feel…blank

After going on several shoots for IV and photographing weddings for clients I have lost the joy of photographing for myself, some would say that I have lost my vision. I question the purpose of each photo I take, as if the photo needs to already have a reason for me to make the effort in visualizing the shot.

This most recent trip to California has helped with that but I still fell out of sorts. Sarah and I were taking a hike near her parents house when she commented that I had not done much macro photography in a while and that made her sad because that is her favorite photography that I do. So if the wife says something like that, I need to dust off the ol’ macro lens again.

Lucky for me I had it in my bag. It was then that I started noticing all the little things on the trail and I remembered how I loved to photograph macro because it causes me to slow down and look at the details of what is around me.

It is down times like this that make me question the power of photography, or at lest the power my photography has and its role (or purpose) in my life. I do not have that answer yet.
